Yamys Urbano Valencia is the Bilingual PR & Communications Specialist at Openlands and works with staff to create messaging strategies that get people out in nature and involved in Openlands’ promotional work, with a particular focus on media. Yamys is a Latino immigrant and is a passionate communications professional with extensive experience in journalism and communications. Yamys holds a BA in Journalism from Santa Rosa Catholic University (Caracas – Venezuela). He is bilingual in English and Spanish, and as a Latino immigrant and communicator, he is interested in working directly with organized communities and political factors in favor of sustainable life. Prior to joining the team at Openlands, Yamys worked as the Press and Communications Director for the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento, California, where he made a significant contribution to making the hard work of farm workers visible. He feels proud that through his work, he can generate positive changes in nature preservation.
