Maddie is the Forestry Field Supervisor at Openlands and works with the arborist apprenticeship program training apprentices in various tree care techniques including tree planting, pruning, maintenance, and felling. She has a bachelor’s degree in environmental biology from Eastern Illinois University. Maddie also holds a Chainsaw Feller 1 certification, IAA Safety and Woods Worker certification, and a pesticide applicator’s license. She is also an Openlands TreeKeeper and certified wildland firefighter with S-130, S-190, S-290, I-100 and Chicago Wilderness Prescription burn certificates. Maddie has a background in ecological restoration and has managed several crews for various environmental organizations.
