Brooke McEwen

Brooke McEwen is the Grant Writer at Openlands and works with leadership and staff to communicate the organization’s ideals, goals, and impact to current and prospective financial supporters. Using principles of storytelling, Brooke weaves facts, concepts, knowledge, and institutional memory into proposals that seek the financial resources necessary to protect natural spaces and to connect people with them. Brooke most recently taught English in primary, post-secondary, and community settings, and prior to that, she wrote for local, regional, and national publications. Brooke is an active steward of prairie and oak savanna in southeastern Wisconsin, was a fellow with the LA Review of Books (2020) and has been awarded creative writing residencies from Write On, Door County (2021) and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (2022). She studied journalism and Spanish at Marquette University and has an MFA from Bennington College, where she was a graduate teaching fellow.
