Overview

The old-growth forest at Barker Woods is a place for quiet contemplation amid a busy urban environment. Walk the trail of this dedicated Indiana state nature preserve in spring. Admire the flowering dogwood and shadbush in bloom. Linger in the shelter of tall oaks, maples, and pines. Return in October for a spectacular display of fall color. Winter is also a good time to walk the trails. The bare tree branches make it easier to spot the many birds that live here year-round: woodpeckers of several types, great horned owls, many more.

Parking and trailhead are available in front of Barker House, the headquarters of Save the Dunes.
