Michael Dugan

Michael Dugan is the Director of Forestry at Openlands and works with the Forestry team, regional partners, and community members to educate and engage people to protect, maintain, and grow the Chicago region’s trees, forest connectivity, and canopy cover. Michael knows that the benefits of a healthy urban forest are essential to facing climate change and creating a more resilient region. Before joining Openlands in 2013, Michael worked for the Natural Resources Group of the New York City Parks Department, where he led community groups and volunteers in natural area stewardship and urban forestry projects, as well as performing forest restoration in support of the MillionTreesNYC Initiative. Michael is proud TreeKeeper #1256, and an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist and Municipal Specialist IL9278AM, and is a graduate of the Municipal Forestry Institute and Environmental Leadership Program. Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from the University of Washington
