Mary Fortmann

Mary Fortmann join Openlands in 2018 as the Sustainable Landscapes Coordinator. She leads the award-winning Conservation@Home program in Lake County, Illinois and has conducted over 700 property consultations in which she helps people identify meaningful, eco-friendly projects that fit their busy lives. She further manages the popular native plant sales in Lake County.

Prior to joining Openlands, Mary worked for Conserve Lake County and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. She has volunteered as a master gardener since 2001. Born and raised in Lake County, Mary is now raising her own family here as well. She loves paddle-boarding in summer, campfires in autumn, reading in winter, and finding the first flowers to bloom each spring. When asked what she loves most about Cher work, she quickly answers: the volunteers!
