Patrick Hanley is a Partner at Mason Rocque, a family office investing in Illinois businesses. Most recently, Patrick served public sector executives as an Associate with McKinsey & Company, where he supported state governments on COVID-19 response strategy and implementation. Patrick also advised a large conservation nonprofit on its strategic roadmap, as well as a number of other public agencies and financial services companies. Prior to McKinsey, Patrick consulted for The Asia Group, advising companies across Asia-Pacific. Patrick served The Asia Group’s growing China practice, opened its India practice, and launched its investment advisory, TAG Capital, in Hong Kong.

Patrick is passionate about place-based local action, land stewardship, and sustainable ecosystems. On his return to Chicagoland, after ten years away, Patrick was reawakened to the natural beauty of Illinois’ tallgrass prairies, native fens, marshlands, and oak savannas. A convert to Midwestern natural wonder, Patrick is inspired by Openlands’ mandate, channeling George Overton, to ‘raise the threshold’ of expectations for our shared wildlands (so evocatively captured in Philip Juras’ Picturing the Prairie). Patrick is enthusiastic about Openlands’ re-commitment to equity, linking climate resilience to social inclusion and community-building throughout our neighborhoods and townships.

Patrick serves on the leadership board of the Justice Project, a grassroots social justice movement in the northern suburbs. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the New Trier Township Democrats. In 2018, Patrick was selected to join the Chicago Chapter of the New Leaders Council.

Patrick is an Illinois native, now living on the North Shore with his fiancée, Jessica Mason, Founder & CEO of Piglet in Bed, a U.K.-based, venture-backed bedding and sleepwear brand. Patrick holds an M.B.A. in Finance from the Booth School of Business and an M.P.P. with a concentration in Municipal Finance from the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago. Patrick and Jessica spend their weekends hiking the woods and prairies of Northern Illinois with their Portuguese Water Dog, Henry.
