Hackmatack Stewardship Workday

February 23 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

A group of people standing in the Hackmatack prairie with a volunteer workday sign

Friends of Hackmatack will host a stewardship event this Sunday, February 23rd, from 9 a.m. to noon at Tamarack West, owned by Openlands. Join us as we continue our brush-clearing work along Tryon Grove Road at the front of the site and help unveil this beautiful scenic area, revealing the restored prairie, oak savannas, and Glacial Park.

Experienced chainsaw operators with full personal protective equipment are welcome to bring their gear to cut. Others can help by hauling brush to the piles.

Please be aware that the entrance may be muddy due to melting snow and warmer temperatures. We will ensure that everyone can enter and exit safely. Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty, and bring your own drinking water. Protective clothing, such as long pants (not leggings), is recommended. We will provide hand tools, work gloves, safety glasses, and a few snacks.

The Tamarack West site is on the south side of Tryon Grove Road, 1.2 miles west of the intersection of Routes 12, 31 and Tryon Grove Road. A map to the site from the intersection of Routes 12 and 31 and Tryon Grove Road is shown by clicking the following button.

An RSVP is appreciated, so if you know you will be attending please email Pete Jackson at [beepjackson14@gmail.com]. Students are welcome!  If you are under age 18 , you will need a parent or guardian to sign the attached form indicating that you are authorized to attend; you can either email the signed form back to the previously mentioned email or bring it to the workday. (You do not need to sign, just your parent/guardian.)
