Supporting School Gardens in Our Communities

Openlands is offering schools in our network the opportunity to apply for a grant to support their existing school garden. Strong applications will have a plan for activating gardens to be living laboratories for students, and a space for the school to connect with their surrounding community. Schools that are chosen to receive the Openlands Garden Support Grant will receive the following:

  • $500 for supplies to support the school garden, which can be used for:
    • Plants + Seeds
    • Tools
    • Soil and soil amendments
    • Replacing old benches
    • Replacing beds
    • Supplies for activating the garden space through art, STEM, SEL, nature play
  • Optional: Openlands garden support session (e.g., garden team check ins, garden tips, hands-on garden support, etc.)

Your school must be one of the schools that Openlands has supported through the Building School Gardens program or Space to Grow. You can view the list of schools in our network here. Schools with high enthusiasm and high need are prioritized for this grant.

Application Process:

  1. Fill out our form by February 1, 2024.
  2. We will notify you of your status at the end of February.
  3. If you are selected, we will work with you to set up an account with Class Wallet to receive your funds within 2-3 weeks. All funds will be spent using this online digital wallet. If you have previously used Class Wallet with any other organization, you will use the same login information.
  4. Funds must be spent by the end of June 2024
