Revitalizing America’s Schoolyards Act

Green schoolyards give kids access to nature and help communities manage stormwater

Too many schoolyards are still seas of asphalt — hot, impervious, and disconnected from the natural world. This Act would fund the transformation of these spaces into green, nature-rich environments that benefit students’ health, reduce stormwater runoff, and cool urban heat islands. Urge your members of Congress to support this investment in the next generation.

Research shows that children who spend time in green, natural environments have better focus, lower stress levels, and stronger well-being.

Yet for millions of kids in urban communities, a barren schoolyard is the only outdoor space they regularly access. Green schoolyards do double duty: they give students a meaningful connection to nature while also functioning as critical green infrastructure, absorbing stormwater that would otherwise overwhelm sewer systems and flood streets.

The Revitalizing America’s Schoolyards Act recognizes that investing in school grounds is investing in both public health and environmental resilience.

Tell your representatives you support this funding because every child deserves a schoolyard worth stepping outside for.
