Tonatiu supports Openlands as a Forestry Program Specialist, where he oversees the TreePlanters Grant. With five years of experience in arboriculture, Tonatiu brings expertise in plant health care and is an ISA Certified Arborist. Before joining Openlands, he worked in private tree care, where he trained others in the usage of pesticides and fertilizers. Passionate about increasing the tree canopy in our region, Tonatiu is known for raising awareness on the benefits of trees in the region’s Latine community.
Favorite Place to Get Outside – He enjoys gardening, taking his dog to explore the forest preserves, and helping his friend overcome their tree blindness.
