Michael supports Openlands as the Public Relations Specialist, where he engages external partners and tells compelling stories about Openlands’ work. With five years of experience in outreach and a conservation background, Michael brings expertise in relationship building, writing, and a strong understanding of environmental issues.

Before joining Openlands, he worked for the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he organized a series of conferences with NASA on satellite data and energy. Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Grinnell College and an Master of Science in Environmental Conservation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Passionate about sharing his knowledge and interest in nature, Michael is known for inspiring others to care about their local environment.

Favorite Place to Get Outside- he enjoys birding around Chicagoland and in particular visiting Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie to see grassland birds. He is also proud TreeKeeper #2,199.
