Kate supports Openlands as a Forestry Specialist, where she co-leads the Arborist Registered Apprentice program. With 5 years of experience in urban forestry and restoration, Kate brings expertise in tree identification, botany, and plant healthcare.

Before joining Openlands, she worked at TreesCharlotte, where she founded their own TreeKeeper Program. Kate holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s degree in Plant Biology and Conservation from Northwestern. Passionate about connecting people with nature, Kate is known for her ability to excite even the most unengaged audiences about trees and greenspaces.

Favorite Place to Get Outside- she enjoys hiking, searching for spring ephemerals, and is actively involved in creating native garden designs with North Branch Natives.
