Openlands Staff Al De Reu

Al De Reu is the TreeKeepers Program Specialist at Openlands and works with Forestry Department to train and sustain volunteer tree stewards to increase the region’s tree canopy. Al was an active TreeKeeper for several years before joining Openlands’ staff. He believes that enabling and empowering volunteers to plant, maintain, and advocate for trees is a critical component of nature-based solutions to combat the effects of Climate Change. Prior to joining Openlands, Al was a Senior Editor in education publishing working on math textbooks for 12 years. He also previously taught ACT and SAT test prep courses, managed a wine store, and worked at several nurseries. Al holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Northern Arizona University with a minor in Spanish.
