Community Tree Care Day in North Lawdale

Join Openlands Staff, TreeKeepers, and TREEmendous Lawndale while we steward the trees on 16th street in North Lawndale!
 
TREEmendous Lawndale is an initiative of the North Lawndale Community Coordinating Council’s GROWSS Committee and champions that a healthy community has a healthy tree canopy. We aim to work with community to support a healthier urban tree canopy and build resident support for trees in the North Lawndale neighborhood
 

What is a Community Tree Care Day?

Openlands staff will facilitate a stewardship workday in a Chicago green space for three hours focusing on tasks such as mulching, watering, pruning, litter cleanup and other essential tree care activities.

Who can can go to a CTCD?

  • Aspiring TreeKeepers!
  • Anyone in the community, including individuals and community groups, who are interested in learning, getting involved, and connecting with like-minded neighbors passionate about tree stewardship, are welcome to join.
  • Organizations and community groups looking to organize a volunteer day for a large group are encouraged to reach out to Openlands.
  • Existing TreeKeepers are encouraged to participate and build their stewardship and leadership skills! 

What to bring?

Please bring weather appropriate clothing and a water bottle! Tools will be provided. Openlands will supply the necessary tools, water, and provide basic lessons in tree identification and care.
