Lupe supports Openlands as Restoration Coordinator, where they collaborate with partners and support volunteer stewards at key sites like Hackmatack, Midewin, and other protected natural areas. With 4 years of experience in Restoration, Lupe brings expertise in native plant identification and integrated pest management.

Before joining Openlands, they worked at Chicago Park District, where they led a crew in natural areas restoration around Chicago. Lupe holds a bachelor’s degree in History and Intercultural Studies from John Brown University. Passionate about connecting people to nature, Lupe is known for community engagement.

Favorite Place to Get Outside- Lupe enjoys birding and looking for native plants at Hegewisch Marsh and the South Shore Nature Sanctuary, and is actively involved in Chicago Community Jail Support and Midwest Books to Prisoners.
