Supporting School Gardens in Our Communities

Openlands provides schools in our network with hands-on support in developing and maintaining their school garden teams or their existing school gardens. This support grant is to assist schools in keeping their gardens activated as living laboratories for students and spaces for the school to connect with their surrounding community. Schools that are chosen receive a $1,000 grant to be used to support their school gardens. In addition, schools that are chosen to receive the Openlands Garden Support Grant will also receive the following:

  • Support with Garden Team check-ins
  • Support with garnering community support of the garden, by asset mapping and connecting with community organizations
  • Help with facilitating up to 3 garden sessions with students, parents, and/or community members.
  • A scholarship for someone from your garden team to attend the Openlands TreeKeepers Course.

Eligibility

Your school must be one of the schools in Openlands network.  Schools in our network are schools we have been supported through in building school gardens, have participated in, or are currently participating in Birds in My Neighborhood© or Space to Grow© spaces. If you are unsure whether your school was a part of Openlands Building School Gardens program, you can view the list of schools in our network here.
