Paul supports Openlands as the Director of Finance where he oversees the accounting staff and is responsible for all facets of Openlands’ financial operations. This includes financial reporting, budgeting, regulatory compliance, financial analysis, annual audit navigation and fiscal policy development. He is a member of the Leadership Team, coordinates with budget managers across the organization and is the staff lead on the Finance Committee of the Openlands Board of Directors. With over 22 years of accounting and operations experience, Paul brings a high level of expertise in financial leadership and a wealth of knowledge in nonprofit management. Before joining Openlands, he worked for Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities, where he managed a team of 4 accountants and oversaw a $28 million annual budget.

Paul earned his bachelor’s degree in operations management from Loyola University of Chicago. He also holds an associate’s degree in accounting and is a licensed CPA in the state of Illinois. Passionate about conserving the vast ecological treasures of our region, Paul is known for his deep engagement in the actual work on the ground, far beyond the numbers in a financial spreadsheet. He enjoys hiking the forest preserves throughout the Chicago metro area with his dogs – especially at the Salt Creek Trail, along the Des Plaines River. He is a member of the AICPA and a proud volunteer in the Openlands TreeKeepers.
