Monica supports Openlands as Director of Development, where she leads fundraising strategy, corporate engagement, donor relations, and special events to advance conservation and climate resilience across the Chicago region. With over 17 years of professional experience in the public and nonprofit sectors, Monica is a dynamic and accomplished leader dedicated to achieving operational excellence and fostering positive social impact.

Before joining Openlands, Monica served as Executive Director of the DANK Haus German American Cultural Center for more than six years, where she professionalized the organization, expanded its outreach and visibility, and strengthened its financial sustainability through strategic partnerships and community engagement. Monica’s expertise spans development, advocacy communications, and stakeholder engagement. She is known for her ability to cultivate authentic partnerships, inspire collaboration, and drive measurable results. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Master’s degree from Roosevelt University.

Passionate about connecting people to the natural world, Monica’s role at Openlands fuels her belief that access to nature is essential for all communities.

Favorite Place to Get Outside: Monica enjoys exploring the region’s outdoor gems with her family, including North Park Village Nature Center, River Trail Nature Center, The Grove, and Emily Oaks Nature Center.
