Katie Fleming is the Senior Forestry Program Manager at Openlands, where she works on advancing workforce development initiatives in urban forestry and strengthening career pathways in arboriculture and the green industry. Katie manages the Openlands Arborist Registered Apprenticeship program, overseeing the employment of apprentices for Year 1 of the program, developing curriculum and training, leading staff in urban forestry field projects, and collaborating with employer partners to enhance the program’s impact.


Katie first joined Openlands in 2018 as the Forestry Crew Leader, where she established and implemented the Forestry Training Program. She is an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist (IL-9691A) and an Openlands TreeKeeper. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources & Environmental Science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and is an alumni of the Green Communities Leadership Institute.
