Openlands Tree Fund

Chicago’s urban forest is vital to the health of our region.

As our climate changes, the urban forest plays a crucial role in mitigating the effects by:

  • sequestering and storing carbon by absorbing CO2
  • reducing surface temperatures by providing shade
  • capturing rain water and reducing flooding

You can help care for the urban forest by making a donation to the Openlands Tree Fund.

Openlands Forestry team has planted nearly 5,000 trees across Chicago in the last four years. With the help of our TreeKeepers volunteers, we are the active stewards of Chicago’s urban forest.
