Openlands Staff Victor Short

Victor Short is the Forestry Field Supervisor at Openlands and works with arborist apprentices to achieve their first-year work goals. Victor believes that teaching apprentices about trees will help them learn more about the way they function in our ecosystem. Victor received training at Greencorps Chicago, where he graduated in 2013. In 2017, he worked as a crew supervisor for Cardno, where he supervised a maintenance crew for the Chicago Park District natural areas. Victor is a commercial IL pesticide applicator and an Illinois Burn Manager through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources., as well as an NWGC wildland firefighter S-130, S-190, L-180, I-100, S-290. Victor’s other certifications include EPA Brownfield environmental waste training, a 40hr Hazwoper certificate, 4-HR Flagger Training, 4-HR Confined Space, Chainsaw Training OSHA and ANSI topics/field instruction, Chicago Wilderness Prescription Burn, Forklift Operation Training, and CPR/First Aid Certification.
