Nora Hennessy

Nora Hennessy is the Vice President of Development and leads a team of development professionals who work closely with the Board of Directors and individuals, foundations, and corporate partners who help to advance Openlands’ mission to protect the natural and open spaces of northeastern Illinois and connect people to nature. Prior to joining Openlands in 2018, Nora served as Director of Development at the University of Chicago, where she led efforts to advance interdisciplinary innovations, faculty research, and student support as part of a $140 million campaign for the Humanities. From 2011 to 2015, she served as the first Director of Major Gifts at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Before to moving to Chicago in 2009, Nora worked for ten years in institutional advancement in two of San Francisco’s leading independent schools. She received her BA from Loyola University New Orleans and has completed executive education in the business schools at Northwestern and University of Chicago. She enjoys gardening and spending time with her daughter.
