Jorge García-Openlands

Jorge Garcia is the Birds in My Neighborhood Program Coordinator focused on supporting our program volunteers at Openlands. Jorge is a bird photographer with features on WTTW, WBEZ, and in neighborhood galleries. You can find him volunteering with Chicago Parks, Chicago Audubon Society, Chicago BIPOC Birders, Chicago Public Library, and the Chicago Tool Library. Before discovering birds, Jorge worked to develop and deliver STEM education at Chicago Public Libraries, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Makers in Chicago network. Through Greencorp Chicago Terra Firma, Jorge received a 24hr HAZWOPER Certification, Chainsaw training, CPR/First Certification, and a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License with a category specialization in Aquatics. Jorge holds an Associate Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from DeVry and studied computer science at Northeastern Illinois University. He hopes to inspire the next generation of birders with his love for urban birding and lifelong learning.
