Beth Cheng

As Director of Development, Beth Cheng works with the development team to build the resources that enable Openlands to preserve open spaces for plants, animals, and people. Before joining Openlands in 2019, Beth gained broad experience in strategic planning and fundraising for education programs and capital projects as Executive Director of the Friends of the Oak Park Conservatory. Beth also brings diverse experiences in the fields of law, informal education, and design, that help her tell the stories of Openlands’ programs and connect our varied constituents with opportunities to have a positive impact on the environment. Beth pursues her love of nature by serving on the River Forest Sustainability Commission and as chair of Green4Good for School District 90, and by taking national park vacations with her family.

Beth earned a B.A. in History from Stanford University and a J.D. from the University of Chicago. She also holds a certificate in public interest design from Archeworks in Chicago and studied industrial design at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
