Development Relations Coordinator

Summary

The Development Relations Coordinator plays an important role in supporting the fundraising efforts of Openlands, with a focus on individual donors through work on the annual fund, annual appeals, cultivation events, and Openlands’ key fundraising event, the Annual Luncheon. This position is an excellent opportunity to learn about a variety of aspects of fundraising while being an integral part of a small but dynamic development team. This position is non-exempt and reports to the Assistant Director of Development.

Essential Functions

Special Events (40%)

  • Support the Assistant Director of Development in the planning and implementation of special events including but not limited to the Annual Luncheon, Leadership Circle Luncheon, and other cultivation and stewardship events as needed.
  • Prepare invitation lists and manage RSVPs for Annual Luncheon and other special events.
  • Track event activities accurately and systematically in the donor database, Donor Perfect.
  • Track event expense budgets and coordinate payment of vendors.
  • Prepare reports to inform solicitation strategies for the Annual Luncheon and evaluate progress towards fundraising goals.

Individual Donor Stewardship and Annual Fund Giving (40%)

  • Support the Assistant Director of Development with planning and implementation of annual fund direct mail and digital appeals.
  • Liaise with the Communications Department to create digital giving opportunities for donors.
  • Track solicitation activities in the donor database.
  • Provide reports from the database as needed to support the development team in making informed, strategic decisions.
  • Prepare mailing lists from the database for printed pieces including newsletters and the Annual Report.
  • Prepare donor lists for the Annual Report while ensuring donor’s recognition preferences are met.

General Administrative Support and Other Development Duties (20%)

  • Perform other development duties as assigned in collaboration with development team to foster progress towards the organization’s development goals.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • BA/BS Degree; 2-3 years of experience in fundraising preferred, i.e. events, membership, annual fund giving
  • Knowledge of and creativity in the use of fundraising database systems for research, reporting and tracking purposes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • High level of professionalism with the ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information
  • Exceptionally organized, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office required

Compensation:

Salary range is market competitive. Benefits include health, life, and disability coverage, a 403(b) retirement plan, paid holidays and vacation time.

Work Environment:

The Openlands office is ADA accessible. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. The employee is regularly required to talk, hear, see, and communicate effectively via computer. This role requires manual labor- standing, bending, crouching, lifting.
