Development Intern

The Development Intern will assist with duties related to the Development Department. The Intern will gain experience in board relations, donor cultivation, event management, individual giving, donor communications, and database management. The intern will gain high-level resume- and portfolio-building experience at a leading Chicago non-profit and will have the opportunity to interact with Openlands’ senior leadership and Board of Directors. This position reports to the Manager of Individual Giving and Special Events, but will interact with and support all members of the Development Department. The start and end dates and the number of hours per week are negotiable.

Anticipated Opportunities:

  • Assist in event management, including invitation management, logistics management, entertainment coordination, and post-event follow-up
  • Network with external partners in Chicago’s conservation community
  • Research potential funding sources (foundations, corporations, individuals, public sources)
  • Assist in processing donations and acknowledgments
  • Other responsibilities as they develop, based on interest areas and organizational needs

Skills Required:

  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent writing ability
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Interest in fundraising and/or non-profit management
  • Commitment to conservation
  • Flexible, easy-going personality and sense of humor, a plus
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times

Compensation: Unpaid

Position Commitment: Part time, 20 hours per week

Start Date: May 2018

End Date: August 2018
