Board Liaison and Administrative Assistant

The Board Liaison and Administrative Assistant is a key player in the administrative team having the responsibility for supporting Board meetings, activities, and events.  This position will also have the responsibility for supporting the President and CEO in his role as key ambassador for the Nature for All Campaign.

The ideal person for this position will be someone that enjoys working with people, and is organized, detail oriented, and effective with deadline driven work. We are also looking for someone that is flexible and able to work as a team. This position is nonexempt and reports to the Vice President of Finance and Administration.

Essential Functions

  • Provide support to Senior staff to prepare for the meetings and events of the Board and Committees including attendance tracking, material assembly, and taking minutes.
  • Support the Board Chair in all aspects of their role.
  • Support the President and CEOs in preparation for meetings, events, and follow up relating to the Nature for All Campaign.  
  • Support Board DEI Committee work to integrate the DEI framework across all committees and with the Organization DEI framework in general.   
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Board DEI Studio and coordinator for the Staff DEI Studio.
  • Execute established procedures for Board recruitment, election, on- and off-boarding.
  • Maintain board communication dashboards and support communications with the board regarding program activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience working in an administrative capacity in an office environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • High level of professionalism with the ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information
  • Exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office required


Salary range is $50,000 – $55,000. Benefits include health, life, and disability coverage, a 403(b) retirement plan, paid holidays and vacation time.

Work Environment:

This position offers a hybrid work schedule with a combination of remote and work in our downtown Chicago office which is ADA accessible. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. Employee is regularly required to talk, hear, see, and communicate effectively via computer. This role requires manual labor- standing, bending, crouching, lifting. Openlands is a smoke- and drug-free environment.
