
Jim DeHorn has worked part-time and volunteered at Openlands since 1993. In 1999, he became the TreeKeepers Organizer, recruiting and supervising volunteers and coordinating Openlands’ seven-week semi-annual TreeKeepers course. Jim served as a crew leader for GreenCorps Chicago, a green job training program, during its first full year, in 1995. He is a member of the Illinois Arborist Association and the International Society of Arboriculture.
From 1954 to 1974, Jim was employed at Western Electric, where he was president of the local chapter of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers. Later, he later worked as an organizer for that union and then as a labor organizer for the Communication Workers of America. Jim holds a degree in electrical engineering from the former Chicago Technical College.
