Create a Living Legacy

In addition to providing for your family and others, your will or living trust can be a way to protect land and water resources for future generations. By including Openlands in your will, you support our work to create a vast network of land and water trails, tree-shaded streets, intimate public gardens, and large protected natural areas in our region. Together, we can create a greener, healthier tomorrow.

"By 2050 the population will grow by forty percent. I will not be here,
but Openlands will, and there will be an even greater need for them."

— J. Timothy "Tim" Ritchie, who participates in Openlands' planned giving program

Respecting and protecting land and water has always been a passion for Tim Ritchie, who grew up in Minnesota wilderness. In 1996 Openlands founder George Overton introduced Tim to the organization, and he's been a steadfast supporter ever since. Today, Tim sits on the Board of Directors and has been an integral member of several committees, including Openlands' Policy Committee, where he serves as vice president.

Climate change and its impact on our water supply, environment, and wildlife are of utmost concern for Tim. "So much of what Openlands does mitigates it," he says. "It's what Openlands does, and if we don't fund it, it won't be there."
